Interesting to note that these Shop Houses have just been on the news (19th Sep 2008) because the URA (Urban Renewal Authority) has announced a $1.3 Billion project to renovate them (as opposed to redevelop).

The houses currently have many ground floor shops that form part of the famous flower market.

Recent photo below which shows them occurring in pairs with a shared staircase in the middle of each pair, five pairs altogether at this location. Shame about the newer building stuck at the near end.
