Hi there,

While browsing Morrison's photos of the area I noticed at least one of the clearly shown the entrace of this pillbox.  Try took look at the photo with Record Identifier: olvwork348598.

On a hill side with no camoulflage these structures are easy targets of heavy guns.

Best Regards,

T

Here's a link to the Hedda Morrison photo. If I'm looking at the right part of the photo the pillbox looks to be in a shallow dip. It seems an odd choice of location for a pillbox?

Regards, David

This would appear to be Aberdeen PB 2, PB 1 is at the dam wall.

Account of Naval Operations held at National Archives, Kew.

Paraphrase: The Forward Line ran from Mt Cameron south face, PB2, Bennett's Hill, Island Road. There was a gap between the Canadians south of Mt Cameron  - PB2, to other units on Bennett's Hill.  19/12.  Major Giles RM, set up temporary HQ at PB2 to establish the line to Bennett's Hill.  25/12. Certain other parties did, however, make their way further west and attacked our positions in the vicinity of Aberdeen Upper Reservoir and PB1.

Hi T - the links to the photos on Multiply don't work. Will you be reposting?

Hi there,

I will repost gradually.  The porblem is I had only organized the photos by date of visit without properly marking up the folders for the locations involved.  Might take a while to sort it through.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T

Cheers!

Hello Ddavid,

I wish you well.

I was looking at Hedda Morrison's image re https://iiif.lib.harvard.edu/manifests/view/ids:6179066$1i

Kindly put marker of the PB 2 on the provided image.

Thank you so much.

Hi There,

If you zoom it in, the entrace of the Pillbox 2 would be visible very clearly as a cutting into the slope.  If you use the small hill at the very middle of the photo as a start, the entrace would be at around the 1000 o'clock direction.  Quite easy to spot.

Was this pillbox ever in action?
