The Hong Kong Legacy
Primary tabs
If anybody is interested I thought I should mention that I am taking The Hong Kong Legacy down from the web very shortly. Unfortunately it has failed to illicit any leads to my Chinese great grandmother who was known as Ching Ah Fung so I see no usefullness in leaving it there. I have posted all the pictures of that time -late 19th and early 20th Century from my family archive - on Gwulo and hope they will be of interest to some.
The story of my great grandfather Jons Jakobsson, known as John Olson in HK, and the disgraceful behaviour of the family he raised and sometimes supported during a lifetime in Hong Kong after immigrating from Sweden is as complete as I can make it. The Swedish side of the family goes back to the early 17th Century with witten records!
I will still keep a regular eye on Gwulo in the hopes that something may be forthcoming on my Chinese roots. The website that was will now form the skeleton of a book which will I think have more lasting value and perhaps rattle the odd cage of Empire and its often unhappy influece on HK.
Thanks to all those who helped in whatever way. It would be invidious to name those who have helped. Lets just say that without David providing the vehicle there are a lot of people of would be more ignorant than they were.
Thanks David
re: The Hong Kong Legacy
Hi Sean,
Yes, it's a pity that we haven't heard from any ancestors on the Chinese side of the family. I still hope that someone searching on Google will find your pages here and fill in the blanks.
Writing a book will keep you busy!
I hope it all goes well,
Regards, David
