Mystery object Mt Parker [????- ]

I was out looking for PB45 yesterday (no success) and came across this - just off Mt Parker Rd at BBQ Site 3.

Does anyone know what it is?

I wondered if it might be a WWII tunnel entrance that has been filled in with dirt. Although I have to admit it's a very odd shape. (Maybe it's just a stormwater drain!)

It's located right on a ridge overlooking Quarry Bay.

Hillwalker, strange indeed. You win this month's I-SPY award for turning up new things!

Also it's good to see you've got the hang of uploading and inserting photos.

Can anyone else recognise what that oddly-shaped piece of concrete was for?

As a suggestion this could be either part of the WW2 rice kitchens, perhaps a store.  Or it could be part of the old network of nullahs that were built by Taikoo dockyard to the feed the dams that had to built as part of the agreement between Swires and the Govt.  Essentially as part of the sale of the land for Taikoo they had to build dams to supply water not only to the docks but to both Shau Kei Wan and Quarry Bay.  There was also a cable car system on Mount Parker that took the ex pat families to the bungalows in the hills, that were used mainly in the summer to avoid the heat.  Pictures of the nullahs and cable car system are in the link to Historic Pictures of China (if you can be bothered to trawl through about 200 photos!)

I went up Mt Parker Rd today and stumbled across this today.

It is quite strange. It looks about 1m deep on one side. Curved sides all around.

I couldn't find any evidence of a water purpose, and it doesn't look strong enough to be foundations for a cable car pilon. I'm stumped.

Certianly perpose built, for what, anyones guess.

May I will take a wild guess this is a small water flow structure.  Because accessibility to this site was difficult, the workers built it using whatever materials they could carry: empty barrels and buckets, plywood - hence the irregular concrete shape.  Because the concrete was fairly horizontal along the top, a small hut might have been resting on it at one time.  That little protrusion at one place is puzzling.

The step inside would create a water cascade to aerate the water and dissicipate the energy of the falling water.

Thanks for suggestions on this mystery object at Mt Parker. I'm still completely stumped,  but your ideas have got me thinking.

cheers
