(I live in Stuttgart but could not find informations on Mr. Stohrer - that original Chinese drawing would be thrilling.)

Interesting. I guess No. 5 is the road to Stanley and 31 is Lamma Island but has a strange translation.

Moddsey, from the angle of the painter, 31 is probably Cheung Chau.  Lamma Island may be hidden by Hong Kong Island.

Perhaps you are right on Cheung Chau. But it appears rather high in the horizon. The Army had a garrison at Stanley in the early days

On: http://gwulo.com/atom/17489 I posted another map from 1862. It has the specification "Tschak-Tschu" for Stanley. The caption on the map in German is: "Stanley od. Tschak-Tschu" i.e.: Stanley or "Tschak-Tschu"

Wattis Fine Art; Hong Kong, offers the "Panorama von Hongkong", as I just found. They also provide an English translation. They have: "31. Insel Tschong-tschu, westliche Einfahrt. [Cheung Chau Island, western entrance]"
