Hi, does anyone knows how long it should take by ship from Shanghai to Hong Kong. I am currently looking at an Italian merchant. North China Herald reported that he departed from Shanghai to HK on March 12, 1902 taking Sachsen, while I cannot find his record on HK's newspaper such as China Mail and Hong Kong Telegraph.
Thanks in advance!

I took a look at a couple of old guidebooks, but didn't find any times for the journey. One said the distance is 850 miles, so if you could find the average speed for the ship you'd get a rough idea.

By chance I saw this while looking up something different in the newspapers:
The s.s. "Knight Templar" (Blue Funnel Line) left Shanghai on Feb. 8 for Liverpool via Genoa and Havre. The vessel is due here on Feb. 11 and will sail, as above, on Feb. 13.

So 3-4 days for the journey.
