HKU Halls of residence photo
A minor correction: the Halls of residence are the dark buildings at the back of the photo while the white colonnaded building in the foreground is Nos. 2 & 3 University Path…..large colonial houses for University staff.
We lived in the left hand half of the centre house and Edmund Blunden and family lived in the right half. Dr Solomon Bard and family lived in the house, far right, No 4. Because of the distortion of perspective these houses almost look as big as the Halls of residence, which housed several hundred students!
These houses have now all been demolished.

Thanks for the extra information about the photo.
I can see another, similar building on the left. Was that number 1?
Then how many houses were there in all? It looks like three buildings on the 1950s map:

But from your description the middle building was two houses, so was it 1-4 in total?

Yes, No1 on the left: upstairs and downstairs flats. The middle building was divided int 2 houses ;left&right. Similarly the building on the right, so Nos.1-5.
