My father was a journalist covering the Sino-British talks, subsequent signing of the Joint Declaration, and finally presided over the coverage of the Handover. He sat at Table 36 in the Great Hall of the People during the banquet. This menu comes from his box of treasures from his days as a young and intrepid journalist.
My father recalls that the food wasn't very good at all, but there was plenty of Moutai being passed around.
