My father was a journalist covering the Sino-British talks, subsequent signing of the Joint Declaration, and finally presided over the coverage of the Handover. He sat at Table 36 in the Great Hall of the People during the banquet. This invitation comes from his box of treasures from his days as a young and intrepid journalist.

My father recalls that the food wasn't very good at all, but there was plenty of Moutai being passed around.

Cocktails at 6.30?

A nice Art Deco design cocktail invitation to Repulse Bay Road.

F.A. Swoffer was a manager/demonstration pilot with Arnhold & Co in Hong Kong and Shanghai. In 1938 he wrote articles for the UK magazine FLYING, one of which was titled "War Pilot in the Far East". The lurid colour image on the cover shows Chinese fighters attacking Japanese bombers with Japanese jumping out of flaming aircraft.
