Notes from the CEDD:

The West Kowloon Reclamation (WKR) project involves the reclamation of a total of 340 hectares of land along the West Kowloon waterfront from Yau Ma Tei to Lai Chi Kok, reprovisioning of the existing waterfront facilities, landscaping, essential improvement of hinterland stormwater drainage system and provision of infrastructure on the newly reclaimed land. The WKR project is estimated to cost about HK$12.0 billion. The detailed design of the WKR project commenced in mid 1990. The last phase of the reclamation works was completed in mid 2003. [...]

Both the Airport Railway and the West Kowloon Expressway, which are essential transport links to the Chek Lap Kok Airport, were built on the WKR.

And the Hong Kong Airport Core Programme:

The West Kowloon Reclamation is the largest reclamation ever undertaken in the urban area -- increasing the size of the Kowloon peninsula by one-third and extending the waterfront into the harbour by as much as one kilometre.

The project provides 334 hectares of new land between Yau Ma Tei and Lai Chi Kok. This land is being used for the transport infrastructure serving the new airport. It will also be used for various other purposes, including public and private housing for over 100,000 people, Government and community facilities and recreational areas.

Hi Ian,

The format of dates in titles of Places on Gwulo is [<year completed> - <year demolished>], so that's why it shows [2003- ].

Regards, David

Greetings.  I believe the Ya Ma Tei Typhoon Shelter and the one at Causeway Bay  were the two that required major relocation.  A view of current air photos indicates fewer fishing boats than in the past at these two, and high number of work and pleasure crafts.  Regards,  OldTimer
