I have attached a 1956 photo of our house on the Peak - No 119 on Jardine's Corner, plus a couple of drawings of the same. It is the site on which the current Modreenagh block stands. There was a Modreenagh before the war on the same site but it was destroyed during the fighting I think. My Father stayed there in 1927 when he first arrived in HK. Our house was demolished about 1963-4 as it was replaced by a block of flats also called Modreenagh.

 Lovely artwork

I seem to recall that in my schoolboy years I played table tennis in that house with my late friend Brian Farrell. I believe his father was the boss of HK Telephone Co. Brian was very sadly killed in a plane crash as he was being trained as a pilot with the Hong Kong Auxilliary Air Force back in July 1954. He was only 18 at the time. The instructor was also killed when the plane sank in Hong Kong waters somewhere off Cheung Chau Island. A Sunderland flying boat also sank during the rescue mission, fortunately with no loss of life. I still have the newspaper report on the tragedy and will post this on Gwulo if anyone is interested.

Yes please, I'd be interested to see that clipping. I guess Brian's father was Mr Robert Emmet Farrell.

Yes that is correct. Bob Farrell was married to Nina and they had four sons: Robert who worked with HSBC, Patrick became a pilot with BEA or BUA, Brian and then Kenny who I think went into marketing. Bob and Nina retired to Palamos in Spain in about 1956.

Clipping posted  -  it used to be white!

Thanks Frank. The clipping is at https://gwulo.com/atom/29981, and I've made a page for Brian at https://gwulo.com/node/40674
