The Hong Kong Tramways' Welfare Centre was opened in December 1951. The Centre provided educational, medical, recreational and general welfare facilities to staff. It was built over the Bowrington Canal just outside the tram depot on Russell Street. Source: HK Tramways' Annual General Meeting. China Mail dated 21 March and 22 December 1951 refers.
