This image of the wartime Japanese control tower or operations building has been clipped from a larger image in which an aircraft was the primary subject. It was dated 1955.
This is one of the clearest found so far. The building looks in surprisingly good condition considering it had survived for at least 10 years after the Japanese surrender in 1945. Comparing it with other posted images of the building, this one appears to show it white-washed.
It’s surprising that no one serving in the RAF at Kai Tak in that era has ever mentioned this building given its wartime origins.
