Janette Agnes Whyte Shrigley
Janette, wife of Ralph James Shrigley embarked on the ship "Empress of Australia" in Hong Kong on 27-October 1945. She was a widow aged 48 years. Home address given as "Dunaverty", Irvine, Ayreshire. The ship docked in the Port of Liverpool. She was fondly known as Nessie by the family.

Janette Agnes Whyte H Brown. The "H" stands for Howard. I did not realise that in Scotland women retain their own birth-names which in Scottish records appear on headstones and in Legal Documents.
Retention of own name
Scottish records are wonderful to research. On a birth certificate for example are time and place of birth, name of parents, date and place of parents marriage and mother's maiden name.
Death certificates will record marriage partners and dates of marriage exisiting and past.
