Employee Record - Hong Kong Police - Circa 1890's

Hi there,

I am trying to identify the period of employment of my grandfather (A Scotsman named Alexander Nichol) who served with the Hong Kong Police Force in the 1890's prior to his joining the Chinese Maritime Customs Service in 1898. Perhaps I am not searching in the most fruitfull manner however any help with this pursuit would be greatfully appreciated.

Cheers,

Rick Souter

One A.Nicoll, whose service number was  ALS 17 (Acting Lance Sergeant ) returned to the Hong Kong Police in 1919 following military service in Europe during WW1..Enquiries as to his Police/Army service continue.

You may have this but an A.Nicoll served in the Chinese Imperial/Maritime Customs from August 1898 to May 1926,starting as a Probationery Tidewaiter and ending up as Chief Examiner at Hankow, from which position he retired.

Hello there and thanks so much for your response.

This Alexander Nicholl was not the person I was hoping to find as my grandfather did not serve in the First World war.

I know that his name was originally Alexander Simpson so he may have changed his name to Alexander Nichol following his termination from the HKP.

Again, I am so appreciative for your efforts to assist us in our quest.

Best regards,

Rick Souter
