Old mine east of the Twins

Stumbled on what looks like a Japanese tunnel off the trail east of the Twins near Stanley yesterday.

How depth is it?

Quite extensive and didn't get to the end, I guess around 6 metres in, turned right for 6 metres and then make another right turn which we did not venture down. Could be more, need to go back better prepared - there were a lot of frogs in there.

Hi, these could be some old mines, not necessarily Japanese built. Do you have better coordinates available, altitude etc.? It appears quiet a steep descent from the Twins Trail or did you

come up from the valley floor, where there is a Ribbon Trail traversing it?

We came across it by accident taking a short cut that was a bad choice but did allow us to find this. There were a couple of foundations of some small buildings nearby and someone else has said there are some train tracks too so could well be a small mining operation. Track here: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/recording-18-jul-4-52-pm-0b4... - you can see the spot at the meandering we did around the mine/tunnel. Take a machete!

Is it the loop of your track on the west slope of Cheung Lin Shan?

We've been traversing the valley the other day, without knowing the existence of such.

Between the South and North Twins peaks we headed off the Wilson Trail, across Tiger Stream, on the way to the ribbon trail that leads to Stone Hill.

Great tracking and I have been to all of these trails! Very beautiful and remote area of Hong Kong and so close to the Highway of the Twins.

Thanks for sharing your map and guidance.

Does anybody know how to photo reply here in the text? Uploading Photos seems somewhat time consuming.

I have found good Aerials meanwhile that seem to show potential tracks, structures and digging locations etc.

Good luck Mike, let us know how you get on!

Which meant you went off the Wilson Trail at the pass between the two peaks of the Twins, then possessing in the valleys of the upper Lo Fu Stream?
