My wife's great uncle. Served HMS Tamar captured by Japanese invading forces 25 Dec 1941. Died on ss Lisbon Maru 02 Oct 1942

We would like to fill in the gap between capture and his death  eg - which camp was he held in, are there any documentary references to Thomas, mention in memoires etc

I had a look in Tony Banham's book, We Shall Suffer There for details of where the Navy were held at different times. 

  • January 1942 - p.21: "The initial Japanese focus, therefore, lay in rationalizing the camps and hospitals [...] By the end of [January] North Point was holding the Canadians and the Royal Navy."
  • 18 April 1942 - p.41: The RN men are moved again, with the officers going to Argyle Street Camp, and the other ranks to Sham Shui Po Camp.
  • 25 September 1942 - p.60: "[On the Lisbon Maru,] No 1 Forward hold is mainly Royal Navy and Royal Marines with a few soldiers."
