Public Square Street Pier [1923-c.1971]
Primary tabs
The Public Works Report for 1923 refers:
127. New Ferry Piers -- The construction of the re-inforced concrete pier at Public Square Street, Yaumati, was completed by April, and in May the Yaumati Ferry Service was transferred from the temporary pier.
This latter pier, the property of the Contractor was purchased for the use of police launches.
The 1945 map on hkmaps.hk shows the label "Ferry to Chung Wan and Sai Ying Poon". On the 1965 it's "Government Pier". This pier is not listed in the 1951 HYF Ferry Ordinance, so it was possibly out of service since the start of the Japanese invasion in 1941 or after the end of WW II).
The pier closed when the reclamation started in the early 1970s (On a 1972 aerial photo the pier is gone).
