This is a frame grab from the 1985 Jackie Chan film 'The Protector'. Anyone know where this place was, and what it was called? I'm assuming its been demolished!

The picture was just partially captured. I found the full length movie on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InlN4aCemhI&t=740s) and was able to capture the full screen (at 24:36) in which the top of two high-rise buildings can be faintly seen in the lower righ-hand corner. On the right-hand side, it is most likely the Victoria Harbour and the north-eastern side of the Kowloon Peninsular.

This type of house is not unique in Hong Kong. You can see a similar one on Deep Water Bay Road. For those who are interested and have the time, you may take No. 76 which is a bus route from Causeway Bay to Shek Pai Wan Estate in Aberdeen. From Causeway Bay, the bus will go uphill through Stubbs Road, Wong Nai Chung Gap Road and then downhill through Deep Water Bay Road. After passing by Black's Lane on Deep Water Bay Road, you will be able to see that white building from a distance on the hillside on your left-hand side.

For me it looks like Bishop's Lodge, Lugard Road. And the little lights below are from the street.

Thanks so much for taking the tie to write such a detailed reply! Much appreciated!

From memory, I can only assume this is the old Bishops Lodge (Lugard Road). I was lucky enough to live there from 1956 till the late 1960's. Then, the building was divided into 3 separate properties. I visited the property in 2002 and it was in a state of disrepair and I have no idea what current state it is now in. However, I do know the property was built in or around 1889 and have the history of it till the 1970's.

That looks very much like Bishop's Lodge.  It has gone through a number of transformations, including floor additions and other monstrosities.  Last I went it was closed off and in ruins.

Amazing to get such insights, and especially from someone who actually lived in the place! In 'The Protector', we only see the exterior of the place, supposedly the home of the villain, played by the late, great Roy Chiao. The interior is a set at Golden Harvest.
