Question about a pair of Victorian miniatures

I found a pair of Victorian miniatures, annotation to reverse "Hong Kong, December 1861" from an auction house in England.

Early photo studios in China or Hong Kong included minitaure painters as their range of services. I would assume that the pair of paintings might come from either a painting studio or a photography studio in Hong Kong. For the research purpose, I would like to get your opinion on their possible origin.
The approximate image sizes are as follows:
Lady: 9cm x 6.5cm
Gentleman: 9.5cm x 7cm

In term of provenance, they are from the estate of artist Michael Morgan RI in England, but have no other information about their history.
