In the Chronicle and Directory of China, Corea, Japan, Indo-China, Straits Settlements, Malay States, Netherlends India, Borneo, The Philippines &c, for the years 1901,1902 and 1903, there is a Miss Jones living in the Westbourne Villas on Botham Road. Does anyone have any information on the lady?  It is a long shot but she may be my Great Grand Aunt Edith. Or not.

Cheers.

Martin, do you know your great-great aunt's married name? Can you also add "Edith" to the above information if you are sure of her first name. You mention in the FAQ thread that she got married on 17 December 1902. Hong Kong weddings of Europeans were normally reported in the newspapers. It would be worth searching the Old Newspapers of that date and a few days afterwards eg "1902-12-18" on the mmis site, to which David has provided a link and instructions.

We have a page for Edith already at https://gwulo.com/node/46983, so I suggest we add any further information about her to that page, and keep this page for the Miss Jones in Westbourne Villas - at least until it becomes clearer if they are the same lady or not.

Edith Jones is my page as well.  I am not sure who the lady is, hence why I didn't add it to the other one.

  It is a broad search.

I'm sure someone should be able to access the Ladies Directories of 1901-3 for you. You would then at least get an initial for the Miss Jones of Westbourne Villas. They are stocked by the Public Records Office and HKU Library. I can't remember which newspaper published them.

My (enfeebled) memory now reminds me that the Ladies Directory is a supplement of the Chronicle and Directory of China etc. that you have already consulted. A quick check of my copies of the later Ladies Directories shows me that initials are sometimes left out. The Miss Jones of Westbourne Villas may have to remain a mystery therefore. Sorry.
