He died in Norwich, Norfolk, England on 16th August 1899 but was BURIED IN HONG KONG on 14th January 1900 at the Hong Kong Cemetery in Happy Valley.

Long time resident of Hong Kong with his wife. Businessman, banker, Justice of the Peace and philanthropist

He married his wife Matilda in Bombay in 1858 and the newlyweds were sent to the Colony of Hong Kong, arriving on 25th December 1858, to open a branch of fhe Commerical Bank of India, eventually located at 350 Queen's Road. After leaving the employ of the Commerical Bank of India on 16th September 1859, he founded Sharp & Co. He later founded a company in Hong Kong called Sharp & Danby in 1874 and after two decades and four name changes, it eventually became Leigh & Orange, the well-known international architectural and interior design company based in Hong Kong.

He bequeathed the Matilda Hospital to Hong Kong after his and his wife's death, dedicating it to his wife's kind and caring ways.
