She was built in 1953 by the Bethlehem Steel and Shipbuilding Co. Inc of, Quincy, USA as the "Pine Tree Mariner" for the US Department of Commerce but was bought in 1956 by Matson Lines and converted to a passenger liner, still under US flag, for their Hawaii service and renamed "Mariposa".
She stayed with Matson for 27 years then was sold in 1983 to the Shanghai Jin Jiang Shipping Company, registered in Shanghai, and renamed the "Jin Jiang".
She spent nine years with Jin Jiang and was sold in 1992, the airlines having taken her passengers; she was scrapped at Alang in 1996.
