Watching the spectacular, fast, furious, noisy and colourful dragon boat races beat the Oxford and Cambridge boat race hands down!

In the 1950s, the dragon boats were made of wooden planks and were probably two or possibly three times the length of the modern ones.

The extremely long wooden dragon boats were some of the most elegant boats that I have ever seen.  Do any still survive?

As the dragon boats raced in towards the finish line between the temporary(?) bamboo jetties they were greeted by strings of exploding fire crackers.  Frantic back-paddling was necessary to prevent them from crashing into the concrete harbour side.
