Subject: [Update: Not a lance coporal at all. The strip signifies good conduct - see comments below.]
Lance corporal. I believe he's a lance corporal from the single stripe on his sleeve, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I can't sport any other identifying items to help work out who he was.

Date: c.1865. The back of the card gives the photographer's name as Kai-Sack, and his address as "Opposite Stag Hotel, 109 Queen's Road". The seller dates this to c.1867, but HOPIC only has firm records of Kai Sack in business from 1864 til 1865 (see https://gwulo.com/node/31857), so I've dated it to a couple of years earlier.

Date: The seller dates this to c.1867. The back of the card gives the photographer's name as Hung Cheong Shing, and their address as "Opposite Messrs. Lane, Crawford & Co's, No 32, Queen's Road Third Story". HOPIC lists the photographer at this address from 1879-1881 (see https://gwulo.com/node/31857), so the photo may have been taken c.1880.

Date: c.1868. The back of the card gives the photographer's name as Hing Cheong, and his address as "Queen's Road, No 54. Opposite the Oriental Bank." HOPIC has an entry for Hing Cheong & Co. (see https://gwulo.com/node/31857) and places him at 66 Queen's Road Central from c.1868 til 1874. The seller dates this to c.1867, but HOPIC suggests it was taken a year or two later.
