R W Smith taught Chan to drive and she drove Mrs Grace Smith around Hong Kong on trips. She also took her for walks around the srteets of Hong Kong. The blind Mrs Smith was able to recognise the streets by their aroma.

R W Smith wrote on the back of the photo "The eldest child is Chan's step-daughter. The smaller girl was the one we had at our house for about a month. She is about eight and is called Sui Kwan."
