Tunnel Entrance to Gardens Service Reservoir (Hong Kong Botanical Gardens) [1933- ]

Date Place completed:
1933-05-04

When hanging around Albert Road today, I caught a glimpse of something interesting up the hill to the Fountain Terrace Garden in Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, a tunnel entrance:

Peak Service Reservoir [1897- ]

Date Place completed:
c.1897-12-01 (Day is approximate)

The completion of the project is mentioned inĀ item 47.iv of the PWD's Annual report for 1897. I've highlighted the comment about the "roof formed of brick arching", which suggests it is similar in style to the service reservoir at Bishop's Hill, unless it has been rebuilt at some point.

Hung Hom service reservoir [c.1895-c.1960]

Date Place completed:
c.1895-01-01 (Year, Month, Day are approximate)
Date Place demolished:
c.1960-12-12 (Year, Month, Day are approximate)

The 1894 Public Works Report stated: "The service reservoirs at Yaumati and Hunghom have been completed."

The 1896 Kowloon map located this reservoir (with a capacity of ?92,850 gallons) approximately where the Ho Man Tin MTR station now stands. It was also shown on later maps, including the 1956 Kowloon map.

Service Reservoir at Bishop Hill [1904- ]

Date Place completed:
1904-08-10

I am interested in any information about the aqueduct.

Year built, Architect, Usage, any similar aqueducts in other parts of the world etc.
