As I understand it, there were only 150 cars left in HK at Liberation, and this pre-war Vauxhall was one of them. It had been through the Occupation in Japanese hands, and the floor rusted through within a couple of years of my father acquiring it in earlyish 1946. The pic is probably about 1947, and my best guess is that it is outside the Butterfield and Swire waterfront offices in Connaught Rd.

Does anyone recognize this 1930s building?

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):

I'm wondering if anyone knows this building. My family lived in Hong Kong then moved to Shanghai, but I've been looking in old docs and photos and have ruled out Shanghai because of the hills. The car looks like 30s but I can't see any definite IDs. Someone out there might recognize the building?

The family car with Ada Randall at the wheel and relations in the back seat. Photo taken in Hong Kong about 1928. Make of car? Grreat car horn in those days!

Car 175 with unknown passengers.jpg

1920

This is the second of the pair of photos of the car with the license plate 175. It may be taking part in a rally, as the rear of a similar car is visible. As in the first photo, the driver is William Whiteley of 16 Broadwood Road, neighbour to Leslie and Cicely Warren, from whose collection the photo comes. It is likely to have been taken in the late 1920s or early 1930s. Unusually, there is no legend and I can't identify any of the other passengers.

This photo is one of a pair without any legend from the collection of Leslie and Cicely Warren. I can recognise the driver as their neighbour, William Whiteley who lived at 16 Broadwood Road from 1923. I can't identify any of the other passengers. They may be from other Broadwood Road families. The boy appears in another photo that I posted at gwulo.com/atom/18038. The legend to that photo misidentified him as Kathleen Hyde-Lay's brother. Who is he in fact, I wonder. Might the road be Tai Hang Road?

Ford Model T wreck found in Hong Kong

A bit late, from a UK classic car magazine dated in 2003, a Ford Model T found as a wreck in a field in Hong Kong. Has it been rebuilt by now?
