1910 To Kwa Wan Island = 土瓜灣島

Text on Flickr:

The small temple, known as Hoi Shum, seen on the photograph, is located on a small rocky island long known as To Kwa Wan Island, off To Kwa Wan, on the western shore of Kowloon Bay. The island was still recorded on maps of 1947, but disappeared by 1964 in the massive land reclamation and Kai Tak Airport extension at Kowloon Bay. See also PC89.61, a similar view of the island, c.1910, and PC97.17-a close-up of the Rock on top of the island, taken from the opposite side, in the early 1960s.

Hoi Sham Island (海心島), also called To Kwa Wan Island (土瓜灣島), is a former island in Kowloon Bay off the coast at an urban and bay of To Kwa Wan. The island was famous for the Hoi Sham Rock (海心石) and Fishtail Rock (魚尾石), and was believed to be a place of good Feng Shui. A Hoi Sham Temple (海心廟, also 龍母廟) was originally located on the island.

Cropped from KaiTak Plan 1963.

The photos shows that To Kwa Wan Island is about to lose its island status due to reclamation.

Also visible are the two gas works and the Kowloon City Pier. The Vehicular Ferry Pier seems to be under construction.
