This is a black and white oil painting (60cm x 100cm) by my wife Maria showing the corner of Pottinger and Wellington Streets.

Lok King Premises westward to Pottinger Street [????-????]

Lok King's premises belonged to and were occupied by Lane Crawford and Co. To the westward were European buildings right up to the corner of Pottinger Street. Next to Lane Crawford's were the offices of the solicitors Wotton and Deacon, also a millinery establishment, owned by a Miss Roase, and MacEwen and Frickel's store.

 

Armstrong's Auction rooms & Victoria Hall [????-????]

Armstrong's Auction rooms and other the Victoria Hall belonging to the late Mr. Dorabjee faced on Queen's Road and the Praya ( now Des Voeux Road  and the whole intervening Iength of Pottinger Street.

Market scene on a stairway, which might be the Pottinger street, but I'm not sure. This appears to be a well-known postcard, and some websites, for example this one, gives information on the chimneys. That website shows the same image but with a caption on the right.
