Unlike the Protestant cemetery, which has been so well researched and catalogued by both Patricia Lim and Christine M. Thomas, St Michael’s Catholic Cemetery still awaits similar documentation available online. Space is at a premium in St Michael’s and it is often difficult to pick one’s way between the graves in order to read the inscriptions.

This photo shows the inscription commemorating Charles Boreham, who arrived in Hong Kong as a seaman and lived to the age of 82. He was a contemporary of my great-grandfather, John Olson, who died three years earlier at the age of 80. I noticed this grave in St Michael's Cemetery, as it carries the imprint of my family's company, C.E. Warren & Co. Ltd and, on checking Gwulo, saw that there had been an enquiry about Charles Boreham a few years ago. There should be more information than stated earlier about such a long-lived citizen of the colony.

A few years ago there was an enquiry about Charles Boreham, ancestor of Nigel. This partial photo shows the grave of various members of the Cordeiro family, to which Charles's wife, Maria belonged. The horizontal stone, added later, bears the inscription commemorating Charles, who died in 1921 at the age of 82 as the next photo will show.
