The three circular oil tanks of the Admiralty Oil Depot can be seen in the top left corner of the photo. The photo is dated as belonging to the 1930s but could well have been taken from a later period.

With reference to the 1930s Jordan Rd Reclamation, the 1931 Public Works Annual Report mentions that 'the reclamation under construction in connection with the vehicular ferry berth on the south side of Jordan Rd is upwards of two acres in extent and abuts on the western boundary the Admiralty Oil Depot.'

Received via email. The first buildings are going up on the recently completed reclamation. At 4 o'clock in the photo you can see the Royal Naval Hospital, just visible behind the trees. More information about the hospital here and here.

After the 1920s Reclamation, Praya East became Johnston Rd and Gloucester Rd became the extended waterfront.

It is taken outside the Upper Peak Tram Station with coolies milling around for sedan chair rides for the walk round Lugard Road or the more laborious trip up Mount Austin Rd. In those days, the Governor had his summer residence at the top of Mount Austin. It is now turned into a park and lookout point.
