Looking east towards Signal Hill and overlooking the area that would become the Chungking Arcade in 1941. Post-war, the two-storied buildings below Signal Hill would be taken over by Minden Row Junior School.The building on the eastern side of Nathan Road with the small circular windows would later become the Rose Hotel

Commemorative bronze plaque evacuation Dutch citizens, Shanghai-Hong Kong, by S.S. Tasman, 1937

In August 1937, over a hundred Dutch citizens were evacuated from Shanghai to Hong Kong, shortly after the start of the Second Sino-Japanese war.

They sailed with S.S. Tasman, owned by K.P.M.

Repulse Bay cave

I cannot recall where I found this photograph of Repulse Bay, but suspect that it was taken in the 1930s.  My interest was in seeing the cave on the shoreline just to the left of the Eucliffe Castle.  This cave is the one in which a few survivors of the Eucliffe massacre hid after tumbling down the steep hillside.
