Fire Brigade Officer

Married Hong Kong 1939 to Margaret nee Murray. She was returning to HK in November 1941 but was diverted to Australia where she stayed until late 1944 before returning to UK.

Briefly back in HK post war before moving to Australia late 1940s.

Fuel cans taken from a squatter fire - c1950s. The photo was provided by the HK Police to Mr Ron Brooks, Deputy Chief Office of the HK Fire Brigade.

The squatter fires that were often deliberately lit, to force the Government to build accommodation for the refugees, put many lives in danger.

Henry Tom Brooks, Chief Officer, HK Fire Brigade 1922-1937

In 1922 Henry Tom Brooks was appointed to the position of Superintendent of the Hong Kong Fire Brigade. His task was to modernize the fire service in Hong Kong which was considerably out of date.

This Portrait of Ron Brooks in Fire Brigade uniform was done in Stanley Internment Camp by Arseny Joseph SAVITSKY, 30 March 1942.  AJ Savitsky did some 200 portraits of internees in the camp during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong.
