Site of King George V Memorial Park (Kowloon) 1948

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):

Cropped from 1948 Kowloon Peninsula

Shows the site of the King George V Memorial Park (Kowloon) - or whats left after the Japanese occupation.

Wikipedia refers that the park was partly destroyed and used as a refuse dump. In 1948 it looks as if the site has been cleared already. Only a pavilion and a small building survived the war.

Philip and Sylvia Harding Klimanek in Jessfield Park, Shanghai, ca. 1933

Philip Harding Klimanek (1883-1965) was born in the Czech Republic, at the time his place of birth was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. In ca. 1905 he started to work for Holland-China Trading Company, in Hong Kong.

In 1939, when Charles Gesner van der Voort arrived in Shanghai to work for the company, he was Charles' superior. In a letter home he wrote: "Played chess with Klimanek in the French Club" [translation Pieter Lommerse, the French Club was Le Cercle Sportif Français, a fashionable place to be in the 1930s and it still exists today].

Middle Road Children's Playground [1932-????]

Date Place completed:
c.1932-01-01 (Month, Day are approximate)

I'm not exactly sure of its layout, but photos from the 1930s show an open patch of land bounded by Nathan, Salisbury, Chatham & Middle Roads.

12 Sep 2018 Update: Moddsey notes in the comments below that the playground was the eastern section of the land. I've updated the marker and outline.

Swimming canal near Hong Kong

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1917

I believe this photo is at a location near Hong Kong. My grandfather had a farm or what was referred to as a "farm" near this place. I have other photos showing a large body of water, maybe a bay of some sort, and others showing thatched dwellings such as can be sen in the background of this picture. I am thinking now maybe it was near Tai Tam Valley as there is a similar canal stucture in one photo I saw on Gwulo. I am hoping someone may have a better idea of where this was taken.
