Cathy-Pacific-DC6B-airliner-stiill-active.jpg

It may be interest or not to readers who follow Cathy Pacific’s history that one of its Douglas DC 6B propeller-driven airliners is still active in 2019 after an exceptionally long life for this type of aircraft.

Owned by Cathy as VR-HFK and operated from Kai Tak during 1958-62, it was sold to the Norwegian airline Braathens South America & Far East Airlines that had pioneered the early post-war years “school-children” flights to and from Hong Kong enabling children at boarding schools in Europe to return to their parents for the holidays.

Cathay Pacific Economy Class menu, ca. 8-30-1987., flight CX 903, Hong Kong-Manila. Aircraft yours truly flew was B747-300, with Y-class then on the stretched upper deck. Note how Economy Class 'refreshments' were like meals, very much different from the cookies, chips and sandwiches being served today. Cathay then had very great food :-) also nice to have friendly, helpful Filipino stewardesses flying with Cathay in addition to those from other Asian lands

not sure which Batley family member is listed here

This is a Cathy pilot's log-book page  for a Macau-Kai Tak flight on 2 July 1948.

The  pilot was Dale Cramer whose Cathy Catalina was later high-jacked in an attempt seize the gold it was carrying on 16 July 1948. All on board were lost except one high-jacker who survived

the de Costa listed under the Batley name was probably Delca de Costa an air hostess who  lost her life in the high-jacking crash
