Running Dog Tie

The tie is mentioned in Eric Cumine's book titled Hong Kong's Ways & Byways. I recall that you could purchase the ties at the Lee Gardens supermarket in Hysan Avenue, later the site of the Lee Gardens Hotel. Eric Cumine had an office in the area.

Found this when I was looking through The China Mail of Sept 23, 1960. Probably not one of Carlsberg's more successful campaigns, nor one of its more tasteful.

What: The 60's photo shows the results of a decade of major changes to this area. I can imagine people at the time grumbling about the pace of change, and remarking how tall the buildings had grown.

What would they make of this photo taken forty years later?

This is a picture of the site where the plaque that commemorates my grandmother Annie Louisa Olson's gift of land to the home was placed. It is up near trees at top of rise.

Sure was a good view. No wonder it sold later.

Date was July, 1969. Apologise for quality. Must have been a duff box brownie that took the pic. Came across it when looking out some pics regarding an earlier post about the home.

Any info or history about the plaque appreciated. No info from present St Christophers.

I have been looking through the Flikr album of old houses in Hong Kong and thought you might like to see our old house which was No 174 The Peak and later changed to 71 Mount Kellett Road.  We lived there from 1956 until 1962 and on recent visits to HK I was happy to see the house was still standing until about five years ago. There are now luxury townhouses on the site, I believe.
