1986 Cathay Pacific Airways DC3 - VR-HDB aka "Betsy"

First aircraft of Cathay Pacific Airways. Sold in 1953 and later repurchased by Cathay.  "Betsy" returned to Hong Kong in 1983. It was repainted in its orignal livery and subsequently made a harbour flypast in September of the same year. The photo was taken on the promenade near the Star Ferry Pier and City Hall in 1986 prior to the aircraft's permanent display at the Hong Kong Science Museum.

As noted here , the "Flying Goldfinch" was in service from 1973 and later renamed the "Flying Swift" after a sea accident off Lantau with a company hydrofoil.

On board the USS Kitty Hawk moored off the western Harbour. Believe the port visit to Hong Kong was made in 1981 between 24 and 29 October.

Terminal parking apron at Kai Tak. The aircraft from top to bottom are:

a) Civil Administration of China (CAAC) Trident;

b) Philippine Airlines Boeing 747;

c) Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) Boeing 747 SP;

d) Cathay Pacific Airways Boeing 707 and

e) Canadian Pacific Air Lines (CP Air) Boeing 747

Pan Am and CP Air are defunct.
