The next step of reclamation started at the end of the 1890s. This work extended the seashore from DesVoeux to Connaught Road. The older pier extended further out into the sea (beyond the new praya), the new one possibly used parts of the old one; or it was built completely new.

The Public Works Report for 1900 refer:

The new Canton steamer wharf was completed and opened for use in November, just in time to take the place of the temporary pier at the end of Wing Lok Street which was almost completely destroyed by the typhoon on the 10th November.

HongKong Canton & Macao Steamboat Co.was formed in 1865. The company operated ferry services between Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macao.

The first pier (or wharf) was built at the praya that existed after the 1950/60 reclamation (today's DesVoeux Road), east of today's Man Wa Lane. It is easily visible on the 1889 map on hkmaps.hk.

Video snap from Out Takes / Cuts From Cp 682 - Reel 1 Of 2 - Hong Kong (1968).

At the bottom left is Central Vehicular Ferry Pier, the eastern temporary berth has already been removed and the area reclaimed. The western temporary berth is still there.

Then two piers (the first one to Shamshuipo and Tai Tok Tsui, trhe second one is the Outlying Islands Ferry Pier), and a double Government Pier.

The place can be seen already where the Rumsey Street car park will built in 1970.

Central & Sheung Wan

No date given. The old building right of the Harbour Office and behind the multi-storey car park (Wing On Department Store) has been demolished, it stood there still in June 1971. So the date was guessed to be 1972 1974 (see comment below).

Think the piers on the left are the Governments Piers near (todays) Gilman Street. Macau Ferry Wharf on the right.

It looks as if the reclamation has been finished in this area.

Amazing photograph showing all three Vehicular Ferry Piers with ferries in action. Additionally, a passenger ferry has berthed alongside the oldest vehicular ferry pier.

Cropped from Jordan Road Piers.

The photo shows a portal for lifting the bridge for the cars, a floating pier and finally the single-deck vehicular ferry. It looks as if it was (possibly only at this time) only used by trucks.
