Barker Road Houses 1930(?)

Bought this one on eBay (Gwulo insiders will guess why). It's a pretty small photo (7,5cm x 5,5cm), but it shows the clearest view of Barker Road Houses I've seen so far for early photos. My estimate is 1920s or 1930s, any better judge is welcome.

I think the photo was taken from Plantation Road, some 10-20m above the junction with Barker Road. The roof in the foreground right therefore should be "The Cottage". The next houses along Barker Road are not visible, the next is "455 The Peak, R.B.L. 150". <Read more ...>

Peak Tram and Richmond House in the 1930's

Richmond House, Barker Road [????- ]

On Youtube I found a most interesting video. It's title is "The Cunard Line presents Hong Kong" and was made for the trip around the world of Cunard's cruise ship "Franconia". It is not eactly dated (1930's), so I set the date to 1935.

I copied a film still which shows the Peak Tram and the (first generation) Richmond House.

31 Barker Road (2nd generation Richmond House?) [c.1952-c.1999]

This is the first image I found where the second generation Richmond House is gone. I think what we see at the house's site is a fence around (possibly) an excavation site for e.g. cellars. The steel rig around the flagpole is still there. A detail is shown below: <Read more ...>
