JUMBO escapes from Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s JUMBO floating restaurant at sea in the Pearl River estuary, towed upriver I vaguely recall.

It's stately progress must have made a few passing ship’s lookouts stare out more than once.

Jumbo Floating Restaurant (1st generation) [????-1971]

I've set the 'demolition' date to 1971, when the restaurant was gutted by a fire, though the burned-out wreck appears in photos from 1973 so it was a while before it was removed.

A second generation Jumbo Floating Restaurant was built as a replacement, and opened in 1976.

The completion date comes from a 1958 China Mail article which mentioned "the Yu Lai Tai which is about 6 years old".
