1955 Queens Road Central

This week's photo was for a customer who needed a 1950s view of Queen's Road Central to include in a booklet they're producing. Click here for more information about the scene, and find out why any nervous readers should avoid that car!

Please help #1: Rebuild the TST KCR Terminus

The goal is to recreate the old TST KCR Terminus as a 3D model, by using modern computer software to process old photos of the building. I've got the software, but I need

Divorce proceedings in Hong Kong and Macau

David has suggested I start a separate Forum thread, instead of tacking my question about divorce cases in post-invasion Macau http://gwulo.com/comment/33461 on to the end of McCaskie’s June 1942 report of conditions in wartime Macau. Although my question concerns a member of my Hong Kong family, I meant to ask a more general question about the possible transference of Hong Kong law suits to Macau after the Japanese invasion.

Help bring Hong Kong's lost buildings back to life (2015 version)

I'm trying to build a model of the demolished KCR terminus in TST by using computer software to process old photos and / or videos of the building in computer software.

I'll need sharp photos that show the building from different angles. Films or videos that pan around the building will also be very helpful. If you know of any, please send me an email or let me know in the comments below.

Started 1920, pg 15-40

This is the latest Jurors List we're making searchable - here's how to join in, it'll only take around 20-30 minutes of your time.

We'll take the previous year's spreadsheet, then work through it page-by-page and edit in any changes so it matches this year's Jurors List.

Step 1. Check the comments below to see which was the last page someone has started typing. You'll work on the next page. eg if the last comment is "started page 15", you'll be working on page 16.

1919 Jurors List

[The list has been typed up by volunteers: David, Grace, Jo, Katie, Michelle, Miu Shin, and Moly. Please help us type up the lists from other years - it takes less than 30 minutes to finish a page. Click here for details.]

Don't damage our historic postboxes

You've probably read that Hongkong Post plans to cover up the royal insignia on the few remaining old postboxes around Hong Kong.

But they said they'd "preserve these iconic items"

Until recently they had a very different approach. In a 2102 SCMP article, the Hongkong Post spokeswoman, Mary Chung, said:

Report on conditions in Macau

Report made by (Captain) G.A. McCaskie on 18th June, 1942.

Report on Conditions in Macau

Period spent in Macau:
1. April to June 1940 inclusive
2. November 1941 to May 1942.

Google Earth 3D rendering

I thought you might be interested to know that Google Earth has now applied 3D rendering over much of the city. It's not perfect but it's not bad either and may help give a little bit more life to some of the properties we have been looking at. For instance, this is a reasonable reproduction of Jennifer's 77 Repulse Bay Road.

A stroll through Cheung Chau's history

Last weekend I joined a couple of friends for a wander around Cheung Chau. As the ferry pulled in to the bay, we noticed the boatyards across on the north shore:

Boat yards at Cheung Chau

They reminded us of the boatyards in this 1930s photo of Cheung Chau:

Shipyard?

So, something to take a closer look at. The first stop though, was to see this
