Battle for Hong Kong: Captain Andre Kella & Ethel Kella, Sheila Haynes & Patrick Cullinan in Hong Kong in time of war

Philip writes:

[...] In meantime here is another blog about Captain Andre Kella and his wife Ethel and a bit more on their niece Sheila Haynes who married  Pat Cullinan in August 1945. All four were in Stanley Camp.

Andre and Pat were both very ill in camp and were repatriated on Hospital Ship Oxfordshire. Andre died in 1947 and Pat in 1947.

1846 sketches

not sure if these appear elsewhere on gwulo, if not they are amazingly high-resolution 360-degree artistic views of the harbour http://lbezone.ust.hk/bib/b538792

I came across these two old photos. The photo studio name is embossed on the bottom right corner and reads 'Ming Yuen' and some chinese style writing.

Coastal Searchlights around Hong Kong

This is the latest instalment from Rob Weir's records of British military sites in Hong Kong. Here's a map of their locations:

World War Two Air Raid Precaution Tunnel / Shelter

Hi there,

What an amazing archive of historic HK on this website!

I was browsing the topic on air-raid precaution tunnels - again, amazed at the wealth of information - though I didn't see the one-and-only I knew when I was in HK, the one on Wong Nai Chung Road, along the huge stone wall next to St. Pauls Primary School? (At the foot of St. Paul's Secondary School). Is that an air-raid shelter of sort? Anyone knows anything about it?

Captain Charles Elliot

I have just acquired a book presented by Captain Elliot to an Adam (unreadable) dated 14August1841. It contains a plate from the Macao Book Society - which has a list of 13 members names hand written on the plate which serves as a lending record - lent / returned. The names are hard to read - Elliot is one - others appear to include Vachelle, Layton, Stewart, Allforth I would be interested in hearing any views on the book society and timing of the gift given this was about the period Elliot was dismissed.
