What was the name of Pottinger Street before it was named as Pottinger Street in 1858??

Obtinaing info from Carl Smith Collection

I'm not familiar with how the Carl Smith Collection works. I found

several references to names I am seeking information on, with

card numbers listed.  How does one in the US obtain more information

or a reliable mediary to get that information.

ss Changsha - sailing between Australia and HK

My recollections are that my family sailed from Hong Kong to Australia in late 1955 on a ship named the ss Changsha.

It is just odd I cannot find any record of the Changsha sailing at that time (1950s).  Records I've found put a ship known as the ss Changsha as being new around 1886 and she was sunk in the war in 1941.  The ship we sailed on was certainly not that old!  Perhaps another ship was later named the Changsha?

On this weekend: NT tour, Stamp Exhibition

A couple of events on this weekend:

1. Visit to Battlefield Sites of the Six-Day War of 1899.

Saturday 3rd March. Only four places left.

A tour led by Dr Pat Hase. I went along on this last year and it was very interesting - recommended!

2. Stampex 2012.

Fri - Sun, 2-4 March.

I just saw a poster for this at lunchtime. I haven't been before, but it looks worth a visit.

Looking up current street address against lot number

Hi there,

Just recognized the government had put up a street index online for such look-up.  It is an on-line only PDF document.  Google Chrome not supported yet.  Might be useful looking up current land lots.

1950s OIL PAINTING - Portrait, Four Chinese Scholars

Hello

I have an oil painting from HK - expertly painted in a classic European style. It features four Chinese scholars. The young boys, wearing black caps with red pom-poms, are grouped around the youngest boy sat at a table, and are watching him write with a brush.

Hi David,

I saw this picture on the website and was wondering if you have a copy that I can purchase since I did not see it in the catalogs.

I've been looking for this picture for a very long time and was hoping you can help me out.

Thanks in advance,

Suzie
