Aerial photographs of Hong Kong

During my visit to Hong Kong in 1989 I obtained temporary membership to the China Fleet Club. When in the club shop I purchased calenders for the years 1988, 1989 and 1990 because they were entitled Above Hong Kong and each contained twelve superb aerial views of Hong Kong. Do anyone know if this series continued after 1990, and if so for how many years, and do you know if these calenders are collector items. The 1988 calander was produced by Odyssey Productions and printed byWishing Printing Company Ltd. Hong Kong.

Paterson Street

Does anyone know who Paterson Street in Causeway Bay was named after?  A number of streets in that area were named after Jardines' taipans.  The two possibilities I have in mind are: William Paterson and his son John Johnstone Paterson -- but which one I don't know for sure.

Wellington Barracks

hi there,

i just saw the wonderful pictures of wellington barracks circa 1919, 1949 on your site and i was wondering whether anyone knew the name of the street/road where the main entrance (with the clock tower) is located?  I think this photo depicts the military hospital of the barracks but I may be wrong.

I am researching a novel about HK during the Japanese occupation.  And I am interested in where the Japanese troops were eating and living during this time period.  I am especially interested in where they were located on Hong Kong island.

Can I take photos from Gwulo.com and use them in my book / website / etc?

You'll need to check with the owner. To find out the owner, first make sure you're on the Gwulo website page for that photo. It'll have "atom" in the url, eg: http://gwulo.com/atom/15894

Look below the photo and you'll see a line of text in a small font. There are two different styles:

1. Photo is from Flickr

If the text below the photo looks like this:

17 Jan. Lunch in London - Gwulo get-together

I'll be in London next week. On Tuesday 17th I'm meeting Christine, Jill, Mike, and Patricia for lunch. Please come along if you're free that day - it's nothing formal, just a chance to say hello and meet some other people who are interested in old Hong Kong.

We'll have lunch at the Magic Wok restaurant. It's very close to Surbiton station, which has frequent trains to & from Waterloo.

BAAG and the Taipo Belle

The photos of the Taipo Belle helped solve a little mystery for Elizabeth Ride. She explains:

Sat 14 Jan. Guided tour of Happy Valley Cemetery - all proceeds go to charity

Paul Harrison is running his popular tour again on Sat 14th Jan. Please contact Stan Dyer (M : 9746 9537, standyer23@yahoo.com.hk) to reserve your place.

We meet at 9:30 sharp, right inside the Protestant Cemetery front gate for a 2-hour tour with local historian Paul Harrison, who'll give plenty of background information and interesting anecdotes about the early Europeans buried there. The tour costs $100 p.p., which all goes to Operation Santa Claus, one of Hong Kong's largest charities.
