Heritage Trails - Boulder Trackways and Stone Bridges

When you have been out walking or running in Hong Kong's rural areas and country parks, you will probably have found yourself on a path made out of boulders laid closely together without any cement or concrete. These are what remain of a network of ancient roads and paths and their associated bridges linking the major townships and villages with each other and inter-linking ferry routes.

Here's an overview of what there is to see on Gwulo.com.

Military Boundary Stones

You've likely seen at least one of these around Hong Kong:

WDBS #37, Kennedy Road

These old stones marked the boundary of a piece of land used by the British Armed forces. Here are the stones we know of (click an entry in the list, or a marker on the map, for more details about that stone):

How can we record films / movies ?

After a gentle reminder from Phil, it's time to think about how we'll add films to the catalogue of Hong Kong's history. Here are my ideas - your comments are very welcome.

The idea is that films are a good source of information about old Hong Kong. Initially, because they show old buildings and places that have been demolished.

I can think of three main types of film:

One for Raymond or T perhaps? 克強健力學院

I'm looking for the location of a gym. I have no idea if it is still running (though I doubt it) but what I do know is that it was open in 1965 and was used by a certain Bruce Lee on one of his many trips back to HK from the states during the 60's. There is a famous picture of one of the exercise tables he used with the gym name at the top: Hak Keung Gymnasium. I'm assuming it must have been somewhere in Kowloon - Yau Ma Tei area. But thats just a guess. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Listed buildings: just three weeks left

The Antiquities & Monuments Office will stop accepting comments on their propsed changes to the listed buildings on 31 July. So, if you've got anything to say, better get a move on! Their email address is amo@lcsd.gov.hk

I sent them this message yesterday, noting that no pillboxes on Hong Kong island, or ARP tunnels were included:

Tank markings, emblems, and numbers

The tanks in Fred's photos all have a set of markings painted on the front and back. As an example, here's the front of the Comet tank at the Museum of Coastal Defence:

Route 09 - HK Mainland Defence Ruins

Places to see along Route 09, from the book 'A Travel of Hong Kong Mainland Defence Ruins (World War II)'.

If you want to add a new Place to the map for this Route,  use the 'Create content / Place' link at the bottom of the menu on your left to create the Place, and remember to add the tag 'R09-HKMDR' so that it shows up on the map.
