The mansion looking down on the island is presumably about the Magazine Gap Road level. It does not appear to be war damaged despite its abandoned look.

Re: Naval Dockyard & Kowloon - 1949
Hi there,
Looking closer the big house in the foreground, it was indeed damaged, but uncertain what might have caused it: The tiled roof was gone. Comparing the location with present day map, I think the big house was way east of Magazine Gap Road. It was likely #28 Peak Road.

House on Magazine Gap
I believe this is the same house, and think it is at the top of Magazine Gap Rd
Is it the house marked "26
Is it the house marked "26 Magazine Gap Road" today?

Hi David,
The second Life Magazine photo cleared it all up. It is #26 Magazine Gap Road alright.
