Burst of underground pipe in Stone Nullah Lane 1966

On 12 June 1966 (so called "612" incident) 382.8 mm (+15 inches) of rainfall was recorded in one day, being the highest record at that time.  Between 6:00 - 7:00 am, an hourly highest record of 108.2 mm rainfall was also recorded.   The heavy downpour made Hong Kong suffer one of the worst disastrous floods.

The underground pipe beneath Stone Nullah Lane (Street) bursted suddenly in the morning causing much damage to the nearby shops and parked vehilcles.  Photo shows the scene of damage at j/o Stone Nullah Lane (Street)  and Hing Wan Street on 12.6.1966.

On the same day, more than 40 cars were washed down from Ming Yuen West Street to King's Road in North Point by downpour; a serious landslide happened at Stubbs Road killing four persons in a car (including an Assistant Director of Education); and many places in Hong Kong were flooded etc.    Schools and Public Examinations were cancelled on the next day (Monday) ie 1966-06-13.
