DHC-4 Air America

Interesting shot. The aircraft shown -- registration N539Y -- was, as noted on Flickr, an Air America plane at the time. This PDF document contains a detailed service history. She'd have been at most a few years old when this shot was taken. Later, she flew for ICCS Air Services in Saigon, before returning to the USA in 1975.

According to this website with further details here, this plane crashed on arrival at Lime Village, Alaska almost two decades later. The accident was the result of a stall, possibly caused by an equipment failure at low altitude and speed, combined with the pilot's attempts to recover. Both crew were killed in the crash.
