Henry Ching notes that the photo also shows:

... buildings on Conduit Road, Po Shan Road, and University Drive – the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge is prominent, as are the nearby filter beds, and Morrison Hall on Hatton Road where I lived for four years as a university student is at the centre of the photo.

Down in the foreground is No.2, University Drive. Here's how it looked this morning:

No 2, University Drive

This is such a stunning photo. Among the first group of HKU students who moved into Our Lady's Hall in 1939 was the legendary writer Eileen Chang (1920-1995). She wrote about the hall life and the path to campus as well as the surroundings in both her fiction and essays. I seached around but this is the only visualization I have seen that places the hall, the path to campus, as well as parts of the campus (University Dr) all in the same frame. I would love to learn more about the background of this photo!

Dear IDJ,

Hello, I am currently working on a project regarding the history of this area and found this stunning picture posted by you. May I ask where this picture was from? I would like to see if there are any chance that i could acquire a publishing right to have is used in my project.

Thank you,

JC
